Meet The Gap,

Educational Counsellors

The Gap provides counselling and education to those longing for change in a non-judgemental environment, with a free voice, while helping them feel safe and empowered to move forward.

Do you feel as if you’re not listened to? Or that you don’t have a voice at all? Listening is the most important skill required by counsellors.

Our counselling services are to provide a safe space for you to speak, allowing you to be supported during a time of emotional difficulty.

The Gap Counselling helps people like you, to identify and work through any issues, during an hour-long session. Our services are available in the UK and Mallorca, via video-call, telephone and in person.

Founder, Accredited Counsellor & Life-Coach

Gary Napier

As an Accredited Counsellor and Qualified Life Coach, my main passion is to bring freedom to others. As a counsellor I come alongside people to help them overcome their ‘pain,’ so they have hope and purpose in their life.

In the counselling sessions, I offer a ‘safe’ space, whereby clients feel comfortable to share openly without any fear of feeling judged, criticised, or ashamed. I have been told that I have a non-judgmental attitude and that I am naturally warm in personality.  I believe my empathetic listening skills are key to good counselling.  I specialise in couple counselling, anxiety, anger management, and self-esteem.

Over the last two years, I have seen a substantial increase in the demand for counselling and therapy. People are really struggling. They often come just to be heard. It is an enormously powerful thing to be listened to.

What We Value

We believe that every person deserves to be heard and understood. At The Gap Counselling, everyone is treated as an individual and there is no ‘one-size fits all’ treatment. We offer high-quality counselling and aim to provide an outstanding service to all our clients.

We believe that each person has the ability within themselves to work through their struggles and issues, and as counsellors, we stand in a non-biased, non-judgemental position. Our role is to walk alongside the individual or couple and help them draw out the tools needed for their own healing.

Although we are trained and experienced, we do not pretend to know all the answers but it is the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the clients that brings a clearer vision of restoration and freedom.

The Gap Counselling is committed to regularly reviewing its training and services to continue improving and bringing value to the mental health industry.

01

Passion

At The Gap Counselling, our passion is the driving force of our practice. We want to see people healed, transformed and ultimately experience freedom within.

02

Non-Judgmental

Being non-judgemental is imperative in the therapeutic process. The counsellor positions themselves in a non-prejudicial perspective, which enables the client or clients to see a different angle on their difficulty.

03

Safety

At The Gap Counselling, creating a ‘safe space’ for the client or clients is the cornerstone of our therapy. It is where the individual or couple can feel safe to open up and not feel judged, criticised or ashamed.

04

Education

A big part of The Gap Counselling is to see people educated and empowered with knowledge that can help them and others with mental health.

05

Freedom

The Gap Counselling believes that everyone can experience freedom within. It is our desire to support people along that journey, so that they may be free to be themselves and bring freedom to others.

06

Diversity

We welcome and encourage diversity in all areas of counselling. We strive to make sure that everyone feels valued and accepted no matter what background, race, culture, age or gender they are.

Our Story

The story really begins in my childhood. I faced a great deal of trauma in my youth, which resulted in my father leaving the family home. This made me angry and it revealed itself in regular outbursts during my teenage years and even into adulthood.

At first, I never believed that counselling would help me. However, a counsellor was recommended by a work colleague. I reluctantly contacted them but I can honestly say, this was the best decision I made because it totally changed my life.

After my healing process was completed, I wanted to help others become free from their trauma and pain so I retrained and became an accredited counsellor and life coach. I have been practising counselling for over 12 years and in 2019 The Gap Counselling was born.

The Gap Counselling is now a growing practice, and It is my passion to train others in this field. We have several students on our accredited training programmes, who are becoming highly skilled and compassionate counsellors.

The need for counselling and therapy is rising, and getting good quality and empathetic counsellors are essential in helping anyone through their healing. It is our aim at The Gap Counselling to support clients through their treatment with counselling and education.

My aim is to help you to overcome whatever is preventing you from living your best life, by actively listening and supporting you in a safe environment.

As an accredited counsellor, I am fully committed to doing my best for you. I am a member of the Accredited Counsellors, Coaches, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists (ACCPH), and I abide by their code of ethics and practice.

From a young age I was very unsure of my own identity and what I had to offer to the world. Growing up without my dad made me feel like I was a victim of rejection. Shyness crippled me and being bullied on multiple occasions resulted in a sense of loneliness and fear of sharing my inner world with others. Anger was a friend to me; I was angry at my dad for abandoning me and angry about my shyness.

As life went on, I learned to love, like and accept myself (both the good and bad aspects). This resulted in a freedom that I had never experienced before and gave me an appetite to help other people in their life.

You do not need to go through your difficulties alone. If you feel that I could be of help to you then please contact me.

Yvonne Ainsworth

I’m passionate about helping others cope with life’s problems and, in particular with grief, having experienced many losses myself.

For many grieving is a very lonely, private experience, often seen as unacceptable in company. In offering Bereavement Counselling I join my clients on their grieving journey, listening with empathy, allowing them to talk freely about their struggles, their thoughts and emotions resulting from their loss, and enabling them to find hope, purpose and happiness in life again.

My online bereavement counselling encompasses the loss of loved ones of all ages, including miscarriages, and is not limited to our family and friends, but also our pets. I see it as a privilege to come alongside others in their time
of need and would love to help you if you’re struggling with loss.

If you had known me prior to Gary and the Gap Counselling, you would have thought being a Counsellor was the last thing you would ever have seen me doing . I was a hard partying girl from the North East of England who had spent the majority of her working life as an Executive Assistant in corporate London, a million miles away from where I found myself when I first contacted Gary at The Gap Counselling, through Cancer Support Group in Mallorca.

I had been through a bit of a rough time over the previous 5 years. Whilst I was living and working in Germany, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. In a foreign Country with a medical system, I had no knowledge of, I found myself having to navigate the language and bureaucracy as well as the disease itself. Long story short, the treatment was a success and I came out of it all relatively unscathed – or so I thought. But as time moved forward although I was feeling better physically, I was feeling much, much, worse mentally. My long-suffering husband couldn’t cope with my worsening outlook with regards to my health and life in general and finally told me “You need help, I don’t know what else to do to help you”. He suggested I get counselling.

Through regular Counselling I began to understand why I was feeling like I was and was guided towards finding a solution. I realised that the job I had been doing for the past 30 plus years, was in fact the equivalent of bashing a square peg into a round hole. During one of our regular sessions Gary asked me what I thought
about training to be a Counsellor, I didn’t have to think about it for too long. What an amazing idea! I was itching to pass on my experience of beating cancer in the hope it could help and make everything less daunting for even one person. What better way to help someone than through the Counselling process.

Fast forward to today, I am now a qualified Level 3 Accredited Counsellor and am lucky enough to be starting this new chapter in my life by working as part of The Gap Counselling. I am looking forward to using the new skills I have acquired through the Gaps accredited training program and being able to help and guide people who need a safe space to talk as well as giving them somewhere they can come where there is no judgement and an empathetic ear, as well as a cup of tea!
